| My constant source of my life and my mission is God, the spirit within all of us. My mission is to have each animal appreciated for its mind, humor, spirit, and the enrichment it can bring to the life of its person. To be a bridge between different species of God's creations. | | My duties & responsibilities are to teach kindness and firmness to people in their interaction with God's creatures. To provide a safe retreat and retirement for working animals. To guide people in lifestyle improvement through God's creations. To provide interspecies respect. | | I am a teacher. | | Synergy Mission and Refuge provides extensive educational resources. We are qualified to give advice and help to owners of dogs, cats, horses, and exotics. Practical and humane solutions to your problems by live people, not canned information. We have audio tapes available and do private training sessions as permitted. We are available for educational seminars. Your donations help to fund our refuge. It is located on a small farm in Western North Carolina and provides temporary or permanent homes to retired working animals of all kinds. Performing animals, assistance animals, both dogs and horses, and therapy animals. We do not operate a public shelter. Some of the animals that we care for stay a month, for a rest or layup, some stay forever. Many of the animals are possibly available for adoption but only to help them have a better life than we can give them. It is never a "move on or die" situation. All of the animals here have a home, they are fed a top quality diet, have clean and secure quarters, and interact with people a minimum of twice daily. These animals are well loved and prospective homes are investigated thoroughly. Currently we have in residence an 11 year old therapy dog whose teenage charge outgrew her. A 4 year old white gelding quarter horse. His owner thought the way to saddle train the horse was to put the saddle on him, cinch it up tight, with a narrow girth, and leave it that way for weeks. He was rescued with a huge abscess under the girth area extending from his neck to his navel. He was treated and now has a fist size hole where the girth would ride. This is a lovely horse, but placing him will be difficult as he can never wear a saddle. He is rideable but only bareback. Max is a wonderful dog who was owned by a man who didn't even know his name. He came here as a potential Assistance dog. About half way through his training he was paired up with a woman in another part of the state. She turned out to be too busy to give him the care he needed. He is too tough a dog to put with just anyone. So here he stays, loved and cared for, probably for the rest of his life. There are a total of about 50 animals that need to be fed, stalls or pens cleaned, water changed, and attention given, every day. This is a labor of love. I have felt the need to care for God's creatures for my whole life, but at times the burdens become heavy. No animal is euthanized for our convenience. Thanks for your help.
