Train The Dog consists of Four main sections:
Training and counselling:
Our training and counselling services are totally customized, so you can get what you need, not just fit into a class. The on site training is done at our North Carolina farm kennel. We accept no more than two students at any one time so we can devote full energy to those dogs. Each is handled totally by professional trainers during their stay at the farm. No untrained day help ever handles or cares for the training dogs. This concentration on each individual is because of our feeling that every word and touch a dog recieves is a learning experience. We are the only input they recieve during their stay, and every experience is positive. Programs may be as short as two weeks, for a basic "get it under control" course, or as long as six weeks, for total off leash control. These times are approximate. If your dog has special needs or requires extensive remedial training it may take longer, this is not common but it does occur. We also do extensive behavior modification. Everything from the simple jumping on people to the complex separation anxiety management. Time and price vary with the serverity of the problem.
Synergy Mission and Refuge:
Synergy is an educational Mission devoted to the principle that people and animals are good for each other. Celebrating and enhancing the synergy between them by education of both people and animals. We provide speakers for civic and religious groups, provide various educational materials, provide a vehicle for Humane, Animal Rights and Welfare Groups, Animal Control, and Dog Fancier Clubs to come together and understand the similarities of their positions. We also operate a safe and comfortable refuge for working animals of all kinds. Assistance animals, performing animals, guard animals, show animals, all periodically need a place to stay. Whether for a week or a lifetime we provide that place. Our refuge is in Western North Carolina and we have large, shady, clean and secure retirement or rest quarters. Size and type varies with the type of animal. We gladly accept free will donations to help us continue with this work.
Foxridge Fox Terriers:
Foxridge Smooth Fox Terriers was founded in the early 70's by Tam Cordingley. We have show Fox Terriers but have always concentrated on the mind of the dog. Our Terriers are raised with a concious focus of forming the most perfect pet for their new people. They are trained with the Whiz Kids system from birth, so are already well on the way to being a fantastic companion before you get them.
Horses Helping Heal:
Horses helping Heal is a sister mission to Synergy. Operated by our good friend Joan Ronalder. Joan is a talented equestrienne, gifted with the ability to understand and communicate with horses. Her abilities came into being and were used before the current crop of Horse Whisperers. Having trained horses in many disciplines, including performing horses, Joan saw a need for special purpose horses. Specially trained to perform perfectly natural movements but timed to assist handicapped riders, They can be taught to bow, and remain on one knee, for riders with non-functioning knees or hips. Some have been trained to lie down, and remain still, while a wheelchair bound person transfers to the saddle unaided, then rise smoothly for a ride. The person is independent, not bound to a ramp, lift, or personal assistant.
